Executive Head Teachers End of Year Letter July 2024
Dear All,
I can’t quite believe we have reached the end of another school year. I would like to thank each one of you for your support throughout the last year/couple of years. As a head teacher it is a privilege and honour to meet your children and watch them grow. At this time of year there’s a lot of joy in seeing the creative, confident, and capable children, they have become. Of course, this occasion is also tinged with a little sadness that the time has come for them to spread their wings and fly. Thank you for choosing George Dent Nursery School, we are going to miss them all very much!
I know there is a long summer ahead, however, I hope they continue to be excited, inspired and innovated to learn because learning is, and should be, lots of fun. Remember it’s the little things that make the difference; watching the clouds move across the sky and wondering how that happens; using a knife to butter their own toast; mastering the toilet; learning to dress and undress and pack a bag; making a collection of leaves/pebbles/shells; pressing some flowers; having a picnic in the garden/park or at the seaside; going on a bug hunt; recycling and remodelling to create something new from something old; making invisible marks with a bucket of water and a paintbrush on a dry day; making mud pies; and visiting family and friends.
Behind the scenes it has been a very challenging year for the Federation, despite being a very successful one. Whatever your views around OFSTED, and the ongoing discussions around the grading system, we were extremely proud to receive the confirmation that we remain an ‘outstanding’ nursery school. Most importantly, OFSTED recognised the amazing journey our children have been on, during their time with us, and ultimately, the inspirational teaching that happens here every day. Judging by all your lovely comments, gifts and cards I know you have already shared your appreciation with the staff, but I would personally like to take this opportunity to thank them. They are my inspiration and support network; arriving each day with a welcome optimism, and a determination, to ensure each child is made to feel loved and cared for and is given every opportunity to reach their potential.
Sadly, we will be saying goodbye to Tallula and Evie, this summer, as both move onto new and exciting opportunities elsewhere. Tallula joined us, as a very young Early Years Apprentice, and has impressed us with a maturity, beyond her years. She has demonstrated a real strength for appreciating a child’s uniqueness and responding to meet their needs. Evie hasn’t been with us long, but during that time she has worked in both Orchard Room and Woodlands Room, building strong relationships with everyone. Evie exudes an infectious enthusiasm which is always appreciated in times of stress. We are really going to miss them both.
Finally, the school offices are closed during the school holidays, but if you wish to get in touch with us you can email: admingd@darlingtonnurseryschools.org.uk or call the Holiday Club mobile on 07435 257 507 and a member of staff will be able to take a message.
Finally, many of you will be back in September and we look forward to seeing you on our return, Tuesday3 September. Have a wonderful holiday 😊
