 ECO-Schools Green Flag Award

We are proud to announce that the Eco-Committee at George Dent Nursery School have been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag. Although our children are very young they have been joining in and contributing to meetings; championing the Eco-cause. After conducting an environmental review  we decided to develop insect habitats and planting and nurturing fruit and vegetables as well as composting and recycling.

This year we will continue with the mindfulness, gardening, food activities and recycling. We have collected quite a number of crisp packets which we are beginning to turn into blankets for the homeless.

RHS Campaign for School Gardening

We have also achieved our RHS  Level 2 Certificate

This is what we had to do:

  • We have started to grow some plants

  • We are asking our students what they want to grow

  • We can use basic gardening terms

  • We can use hand tools safely

  • We have the skills to prepare the soil, sow, plant and water.

As well as receiving our certificate, which we will display proudly, we received this amazing book about gardening.  We have had a little look and we thought it was really helpful.

Now we are looking to Level 3! For this we have to undertake a mini project.  Suggestions include:

  • Growing healthy foods

  • Encouraging wildlife and insects

  • Starting to compost items.

 Update to follow!
