George Dent Nursery

Parent Governor Vacancy

Closing date for applications: Friday 23rd October 2020

School governors make a valuable contribution to children’s education, opportunities and futures.

We currently have a vacancy for a parent governor at Borough Road Nursery School.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a real difference to children, give something back to your local community and use and develop your skills in a board-level environment.

There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the early years education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute. There is plenty of training available to help you learn about early years education.

The average time commitment is five to eight hours per month, although it will vary depending on the needs of the school and your role. This includes meetings (which are currently held online through TEAMs) , background reading and school visits, which are currently restricted due to COVID-19). As well as full governing board meetings, we also have a finance committee and school improvement committee linked to each school which you may like to contribute to.

The term of office would be two years and many of our governors choose to serve multiple terms, however as a volunteer you can resign before your term is finished if your circumstances change.

Governors must be prepared to adopt the Nolan principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

If you are interested in applying for the role of parent governor, please contact the school office for an application form and send it to the Executive Head Teacher – Helen Dummett. Please do provide two references. Your appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

If you have any queries about the role, please do ask.

We look forward to hearing from you!
