Executive Head Teachers Letter 28/01/2023 GD Woodlands

Dear All,

After a very busy week celebrating Chinese New Year (The Year of the Rabbit), I hope you all get some time to rest and enjoy the weekend.

Next week, we have another fun-packed week planned, as we look forward to celebrating National Storytelling week. Creating a story telling culture is something we are passionate about. Through play children are encouraged to share their ideas and develop a storyline in their play.

At two this might involve a lot of narrative from an adult as the child begins to connect more words with pictures, actions and activity. As they play adults model and introduce simple language alongside introducing simple narratives. But as children grow and develop in confidence, they can try out new vocabulary, improve their speaking and listening, and explore their creativity at much greater length.

We have lots of lovely activities planned for the week and would love it if you were able to come along on Friday, between 9.00 am and 10.00 am/13.00 pm and 14.00 pm, and join in with the storytelling. This might be sharing a Storysack with some children, reading a story, playing with puppets, getting creative and telling stories through pictures and objects. Even if your first language is not English, we know the children will appreciate hearing new and familiar stories told in different languages.

Please let us know if you think you will be able to join us.

As you will be aware the National Education Union and its members have called strike action. This will take place on Wednesday 1 February. This will not affect any children in school as we will be open as normal.

Kind regards

Helen Dummett
